What Is an Insulated Ski Jacket and What Are the Options?
An insulated ski jacket is essential for anyone seeking warmth and comfort while skiing or snowboarding. The insulation helps maintain your body temperature, even in the harshest conditions. There are different types of insulation, each with its own advantages. In this guide, we explain the differences so you can make the perfect choice.

Down Insulation: Lightweight and Extremely Warm
A jacket insulated with down is the ideal choice for those looking for maximum warmth without sacrificing comfort. Down provides excellent insulation and is very lightweight, making it perfect for cold, dry conditions. However, keep in mind that down performs less well in wet conditions unless the jacket has been specially treated to resist moisture.

Wool Insulation: Natural and Breathable
Jackets with wool insulation offer a natural alternative. Wool is not only warm but also breathable and retains heat even when damp. This option is ideal for those who prefer natural materials and comfort in varying weather conditions.

Synthetic Insulation: Versatile and Low-Maintenance
Synthetic insulation, such as PrimaLoft or Thinsulate, offers excellent warmth and performs well in wet conditions. This option is often slightly heavier than down but dries quickly and is easier to care for. It’s ideal for active winter sports enthusiasts who value versatility and affordability.

Why Choose an Insulated Ski Jacket?

  • Optimal Warmth: Protect yourself against extreme cold.

  • Comfort During Activity: Maintain your freedom of movement without sacrificing insulation.

  • Suitable for Various Weather Conditions: Whether you're skiing in powder snow or braving a cold wind, an insulated jacket adapts to your needs.

Which Insulation Suits You Best?
The right insulation depends on your personal preferences and the conditions in which you’ll wear the jacket. Looking for ultimate warmth and comfort? Go for down. Need a versatile, low-maintenance option? Consider synthetic materials. Or choose wool for a natural feel.

Our premium ski jackets combine functionality, style, and top quality, so you can fully enjoy your winter sports adventure. Explore our collection and find your perfect insulated ski jacket!

  • Are you too late? Then your order will no longer be found in the portal. In that case, always contact us first so we can see what possibilities there are.
  • After registering online, you then have 14 days to hand in your return at the post office. If you hand in the parcel after the 14 days, we will unfortunately no longer be able to process your return. The sooner you register and send in your return, the sooner it will be processed and you will receive your money back.

  • Returns are at your own risk and expense.
  • If you return part of your order, we will only refund the amount of the returned items and not other costs such as shipping costs.

STEP BY STEP GUIDE:

1. Check your items

√ Has the return period of 14 days after receipt not expired

√ Is the yellow return label (in the case of outerwear and trousers) and all price tags still attached?

√ Is the article unworn and therefore not dirty, damaged or creased?

2. Submit your return online

Enter your own postcode and the full order number (including letters) in the portal to which you can start the return. You can choose to purchase a DPD shipping label via the portal. If you choose this option, print the shipping label. You can download this immediately and it will also be sent to you by e-mail (please check your e-mail address and any spam mail).

You can also choose another carrier outside the portal. We always advise you to send the parcel insured. The DPD label via the portal insures your parcel up to €500.

3. Pack your return

√ Fold the items neatly and close all zips and buttons. Because of the technical materials it is important not to cause serious creases and wrinkles, as these can damage the product.

Then pack the items back in their original packaging and put them in the shipping bag or box. Another bag or box is also fine, as long as it is sturdy so that it arrives undamaged

√ If you have items from several orders that you wish to return, you may simply return them in 1 parcel

√ Put the enclosed packing slip/order confirmation (or a copy) in the parcel

√ Stick the DPD shipping label on the parcel.

If you have chosen to send via another carrier, please write the return address on the parcel:

Product information
  • 210 gsm fleece, flat face and brushed back
  • 50D two-way stretch panels for free movement
  • Made without intentionally added PFAS
  • No membrane, no taped seams: not waterproof
  • Uninsulated: too light for cold, static days
  • Fixed hood with no hood adjustment

The Peak Performance Utility Light Zip Hood Men is a lightweight hooded fleece midlayer for everyday outdoor activity and active mountain days. It pairs a 210 gsm fleece body, flat on the face and brushed on the back, with 124 gsm 50D two-way stretch woven panels, so it moves with you instead of bunching under a shell. It is built as a midlayer: over a base layer, under a waterproof shell when the weather turns.

Who is the Utility Light Zip Hood Men for?

This Peak Performance fleece suits a man who wants one stretchy hooded layer for two jobs: under a ski shell on the mountain, and on its own on mild, dry days. It is not an outer layer for sustained rain or wet snow. There is no membrane and there are no taped seams, and no wind protection beyond what the fleece and the woven panels give you.

How warm is the Peak Performance Utility Light Zip Hood Men?

Warmth comes from one source: the 210 gsm fleece, whose brushed back holds air against your base layer. There is no insulation fill. That makes the Utility Light Zip Hood Men a good match for uphill, high-output activity where a thicker midlayer overheats, and a poor one for standing still in the cold. The woven stretch panels repel light rain; anything heavier needs a shell over the top.

Which size should you choose?

The Utility Light Zip Hood Men has a regular fit, with room to sit over a base layer and still slide under a shell without pulling at the shoulders. Compare your chest and sleeve measurements with the size chart on this page before you order. The elastic bottom hem keeps the waist close, the hood is fixed, and the jacket runs from S to 2XL.

How is the Utility Light Zip Hood Men constructed?

The Peak Performance Utility Light Zip Hood Men is a two-fabric build rather than a single-piece fleece. The body is a 210 gsm fleece with a flat outer face and a brushed back, which keeps the surface smooth enough to slide under a shell while the raised back holds air. Where the garment needs to stretch and resist abrasion, it switches to a 124 gsm 50D two-way stretch plain weave. A reversed YKK coil zipper runs the full front, and the zip pullers are reflective. Inside the neck there is a hanger loop; on the back sits a debossed graphic.

Is the Utility Light Zip Hood Men suitable for ski touring?

Yes, and that is where this fleece makes most sense. On the way up, the uninsulated 210 gsm fleece and the two-way stretch panels let heat and moisture escape instead of trapping them, and the zippered chest pocket stays reachable with a pack on. On lift-served days the Utility Light Zip Hood Men works as the layer between your base layer and a waterproof shell. Where it stops is clear: it is not a shell. Without a membrane, a water column figure or taped seams, it should not be the outside layer in rain or wet snow, and it is not the layer to rely on for a long, static day at the bottom of a lift in deep cold.

What is the Utility Light Zip Hood Men made of, and how do you wash it?

Shell 1 is 94% polyester with 6% elastane, which is what gives the fleece body its recovery and stretch. Shell 2 is 57% recycled polyamide, 37% polyamide and 6% elastane, a tighter weave for the stretch panels. The pocket bags are 100% polyester. Machine wash the Peak Performance Utility Light Zip Hood Men at 40 degrees Celsius on a delicate cycle, inside out, with similar colours and with the zippers closed. Skip fabric softener: it coats fleece fibres and flattens the brushed back. Tumble dry low or line dry in the shade, and take the garment out of the machine promptly. If you iron, keep it cool and stay off the print.

How sustainable is this fleece?

Two concrete points. The Utility Light Zip Hood Men is made without intentionally added PFAS, and the Shell 2 stretch panels carry 57% recycled polyamide. Combined with a care routine that keeps the fleece loft intact, that is the practical sustainability story here.
