What Is an Insulated Ski Jacket and What Are the Options?
An insulated ski jacket is essential for anyone seeking warmth and comfort while skiing or snowboarding. The insulation helps maintain your body temperature, even in the harshest conditions. There are different types of insulation, each with its own advantages. In this guide, we explain the differences so you can make the perfect choice.

Down Insulation: Lightweight and Extremely Warm
A jacket insulated with down is the ideal choice for those looking for maximum warmth without sacrificing comfort. Down provides excellent insulation and is very lightweight, making it perfect for cold, dry conditions. However, keep in mind that down performs less well in wet conditions unless the jacket has been specially treated to resist moisture.

Wool Insulation: Natural and Breathable
Jackets with wool insulation offer a natural alternative. Wool is not only warm but also breathable and retains heat even when damp. This option is ideal for those who prefer natural materials and comfort in varying weather conditions.

Synthetic Insulation: Versatile and Low-Maintenance
Synthetic insulation, such as PrimaLoft or Thinsulate, offers excellent warmth and performs well in wet conditions. This option is often slightly heavier than down but dries quickly and is easier to care for. It’s ideal for active winter sports enthusiasts who value versatility and affordability.

Why Choose an Insulated Ski Jacket?

  • Optimal Warmth: Protect yourself against extreme cold.

  • Comfort During Activity: Maintain your freedom of movement without sacrificing insulation.

  • Suitable for Various Weather Conditions: Whether you're skiing in powder snow or braving a cold wind, an insulated jacket adapts to your needs.

Which Insulation Suits You Best?
The right insulation depends on your personal preferences and the conditions in which you’ll wear the jacket. Looking for ultimate warmth and comfort? Go for down. Need a versatile, low-maintenance option? Consider synthetic materials. Or choose wool for a natural feel.

Our premium ski jackets combine functionality, style, and top quality, so you can fully enjoy your winter sports adventure. Explore our collection and find your perfect insulated ski jacket!

STEP BY STEP GUIDE:

1. Check your items

√ Has the return period of 14 days after receipt not expired

√ Is the yellow return label (in the case of outerwear and trousers) and all price tags still attached?

√ Is the article unworn and therefore not dirty, damaged or creased?

2. Submit your return online

Enter your own postcode and the full order number (including letters) in the portal to which you can start the return. You can choose to purchase a DPD shipping label via the portal. If you choose this option, print the shipping label. You can download this immediately and it will also be sent to you by e-mail (please check your e-mail address and any spam mail).

You can also choose another carrier outside the portal. We always advise you to send the parcel insured. The DPD label via the portal insures your parcel up to €500.

3. Pack your return

√ Fold the items neatly and close all zips and buttons. Because of the technical materials it is important not to cause serious creases and wrinkles, as these can damage the product.

Then pack the items back in their original packaging and put them in the shipping bag or box. Another bag or box is also fine, as long as it is sturdy so that it arrives undamaged

√ If you have items from several orders that you wish to return, you may simply return them in 1 parcel

√ Put the enclosed packing slip/order confirmation (or a copy) in the parcel

√ Stick the DPD shipping label on the parcel.

If you have chosen to send via another carrier, please write the return address on the parcel:

Product information
  • 28.000 mm water column, fully seam sealed
  • Cordura reinforcement at the lower leg
  • RECCO reflector and YKK AquaGuard zippers
  • No insulation: warmth comes from your layers
  • Half-leg vents, not full-length side zips
  • 620 g in a relaxed cut: heavy for touring

The Peak Performance Vertical Gore-Tex 3L Pants are uninsulated three-layer GORE-TEX shell ski pants for men, built for resort and freeride skiing in wet, windy mountain weather. A 28.000 mm water column, fully seam sealed construction and Cordura reinforcement at the lower leg set them apart from lighter shells. The cut is relaxed, so there is room for a base layer or a thin fleece underneath.

Who are these ski pants for?

The Vertical Gore-Tex 3L Pants suit a skier who rides full days in bad weather and wants a hard-wearing waterproof outer layer with room to layer, on the piste and off it. They are not insulated, so they are not the pants for anyone who wants built-in warmth. They are also not a bib: the waist sits at hip height with belt loops and velcro adjustment, and there are no braces. Gram-counting fast-and-light tourers are better served elsewhere, since 620 g in a relaxed cut is a resort and freeride weight.

How waterproof and breathable are the Vertical Gore-Tex 3L Pants?

The three-layer GORE-TEX ePE laminate carries a 28.000 mm water column and all seams are fully sealed, so sitting in wet snow or riding through rain stays a non-event. Breathability is measured at RET below 9, and half-leg zips let you dump heat on a climb or a warm spring afternoon. Exposed zippers are YKK AquaGuard, and the durable water repellent finish is PFC-free.

Which size should you choose?

Take your usual size in the Peak Performance Vertical Gore-Tex 3L Pants and check the size chart on this page. The relaxed fit leaves space for a base layer or thin midlayer, the legs are articulated for a skiing stance, and the internal snow gaiter with anti-slip elastic is shaped to sit over a ski boot. Available in S to 2XL.

How is the three-layer construction built?

The Peak Performance Vertical Gore-Tex 3L Pants use a three-layer GORE-TEX ePE build: a face of 100% recycled polyester, a membrane of 100% expanded polyethylene and a bonded backer of 100% polyamide 6.6. Because the backer is laminated to the membrane there is no loose lining to snag or soak, which is what keeps a 620 g shell pant this robust. The 28.000 mm water column and fully sealed seams carry the waterproofing; a PFC-free durable water repellent treatment keeps the face fabric from wetting out. A RECCO reflector is built in, and Cordura panels reinforce the lower leg where boots, edges and crampon-free scrambles do the damage.

Are the Vertical Gore-Tex 3L Pants good for freeride and touring?

On lift-served powder days the Vertical Gore-Tex 3L Pants do exactly what a freeride shell should: snow gaiters with anti-slip elastic seal the lower leg over the boot, loops snap into the powder skirt system of a Peak Performance ski jacket, and the half-leg zips vent on a bootpack. For occasional touring and short climbs to a line they work, but they stop short of a dedicated touring pant: there is no stretch in the composition, so mobility comes from the articulated cut rather than the fabric, and the weight is a resort weight. The ventilation is half-leg only, not full-length side zips, so you cannot pull these on or off over ski boots. Warmth is entirely a question of what you wear underneath, since there is no insulation at all.

What are the materials and how do you wash them?

The shell of the Peak Performance Vertical Gore-Tex 3L Pants combines a recycled polyester face, an expanded polyethylene membrane and a polyamide 6.6 backer, with a 100% polyester bottom fabric and a 100% polyamide facing. Machine wash at 40 °C, inside out, with all zippers closed and no fabric softener, then tumble dry on low or iron at medium heat — that heat step is what reactivates the water repellent treatment. Skip the dry cleaner; professional wet cleaning is fine. Line dry in the shade and never iron over prints.

What makes these pants a more responsible choice?

The face fabric of the Vertical Gore-Tex 3L Pants is 100% recycled polyester and the water repellent finish is PFC-free, with the main fabric completely free from PFC. Partly recycled fibers run through the construction, and the Cordura reinforcement is there to extend how many seasons the pants last.

Gore-Tex
Gore-Tex
Gore-Tex is a high-quality waterproof and breathable technology that provides protection against rain, snow, and wind. The membrane contains microscopic pores that are large enough to allow moisture to escape, yet small enough to block water from entering. This keeps you dry and comfortable during activity and in changing weather conditions. Known for its durability and reliable performance, Gore-Tex is a popular choice in winter and outdoor apparel where comfort and protection are essential.
