What Is an Insulated Ski Jacket and What Are the Options?
An insulated ski jacket is essential for anyone seeking warmth and comfort while skiing or snowboarding. The insulation helps maintain your body temperature, even in the harshest conditions. There are different types of insulation, each with its own advantages. In this guide, we explain the differences so you can make the perfect choice.

Down Insulation: Lightweight and Extremely Warm
A jacket insulated with down is the ideal choice for those looking for maximum warmth without sacrificing comfort. Down provides excellent insulation and is very lightweight, making it perfect for cold, dry conditions. However, keep in mind that down performs less well in wet conditions unless the jacket has been specially treated to resist moisture.

Wool Insulation: Natural and Breathable
Jackets with wool insulation offer a natural alternative. Wool is not only warm but also breathable and retains heat even when damp. This option is ideal for those who prefer natural materials and comfort in varying weather conditions.

Synthetic Insulation: Versatile and Low-Maintenance
Synthetic insulation, such as PrimaLoft or Thinsulate, offers excellent warmth and performs well in wet conditions. This option is often slightly heavier than down but dries quickly and is easier to care for. It’s ideal for active winter sports enthusiasts who value versatility and affordability.

Why Choose an Insulated Ski Jacket?

  • Optimal Warmth: Protect yourself against extreme cold.

  • Comfort During Activity: Maintain your freedom of movement without sacrificing insulation.

  • Suitable for Various Weather Conditions: Whether you're skiing in powder snow or braving a cold wind, an insulated jacket adapts to your needs.

Which Insulation Suits You Best?
The right insulation depends on your personal preferences and the conditions in which you’ll wear the jacket. Looking for ultimate warmth and comfort? Go for down. Need a versatile, low-maintenance option? Consider synthetic materials. Or choose wool for a natural feel.

Our premium ski jackets combine functionality, style, and top quality, so you can fully enjoy your winter sports adventure. Explore our collection and find your perfect insulated ski jacket!

STEP BY STEP GUIDE:

1. Check your items

√ Has the return period of 14 days after receipt not expired

√ Is the yellow return label (in the case of outerwear and trousers) and all price tags still attached?

√ Is the article unworn and therefore not dirty, damaged or creased?

2. Submit your return online

Enter your own postcode and the full order number (including letters) in the portal to which you can start the return. You can choose to purchase a DPD shipping label via the portal. If you choose this option, print the shipping label. You can download this immediately and it will also be sent to you by e-mail (please check your e-mail address and any spam mail).

You can also choose another carrier outside the portal. We always advise you to send the parcel insured. The DPD label via the portal insures your parcel up to €500.

3. Pack your return

√ Fold the items neatly and close all zips and buttons. Because of the technical materials it is important not to cause serious creases and wrinkles, as these can damage the product.

Then pack the items back in their original packaging and put them in the shipping bag or box. Another bag or box is also fine, as long as it is sturdy so that it arrives undamaged

√ If you have items from several orders that you wish to return, you may simply return them in 1 parcel

√ Put the enclosed packing slip/order confirmation (or a copy) in the parcel

√ Stick the DPD shipping label on the parcel.

If you have chosen to send via another carrier, please write the return address on the parcel:

The Peak Performance Vislight Polartec® Alpha Insulated Jacket Women is a lightweight synthetic insulated jacket built for high-output days in the cold: ski touring, uphill skiing and winter training. It carries 68 g/m² of Polartec® Alpha™ insulation in the body and sleeves inside a stretch shell, and the whole jacket weighs around 250 g. The point of this insulation is that it stays air permeable, so heat and moisture escape while you keep moving instead of building up.

Who is this jacket for?

This Peak Performance insulated jacket suits you if you sweat hard in winter — skinning uphill, winter running, aerobic hiking — and want insulation that vents rather than seals. It also works as an insulating layer under a shell on alpine days. It is not the jacket for standing still in deep cold, for long lift rides, or for use as your only resort jacket in bad weather: there is no powder skirt and no pit zips.

How warm and how weatherproof is it?

Warmth comes from 68 g/m² of Polartec® Alpha™ across body and sleeves — a light fill that works with your own output, not instead of it. The face fabric has a water repellent finish, which handles light snow and brief showers, but this is not a waterproof jacket: in sustained rain or wet snow you want a shell over the top, and the same goes for strong wind.

Which size should you choose?

The cut is a regular fit, with room for a base layer or a thin midlayer and enough shape to still slide under a hardshell. Use the size chart on this page to compare your measurements before you order. Sizes run S, M and L.

How is the Peak Performance Vislight Polartec® Alpha jacket constructed?

Two stretch face fabrics are combined across the Peak Performance Vislight Polartec® Alpha Insulated Jacket Women: Shell 1 in 89% polyamide with 11% elastane and Shell 2 in 96% polyamide with 4% elastane, both 2-way stretch and quick-drying. Between shell and lining sits Polartec® Alpha™ synthetic insulation at 68 g/m² in the body and the sleeves. The lining is 78% recycled polyester and 22% polyester. Because the insulation and the fabrics are air permeable, the jacket releases moisture continuously rather than holding it — which is why the total weight stays near 250 g and why the jacket compresses into its own chest pocket.

Is this jacket suitable for ski touring?

Ski touring and uphill skiing are the main use case for this Peak Performance insulated jacket. On the climb it insulates without turning into a sauna, the elastic cuffs with thumbholes stay put under gloves, and the elastic waistband hem keeps the jacket from riding up with a pack on. On the descent, or when the weather turns, treat it as a midlayer and pull a hardshell over it — there is no waterproof membrane, no seam sealing and no powder skirt, so it stops where the weather gets serious. For winter running, hiking and training in the cold it works on its own, and the reflective zip pullers and reflective cord help in low light.

What are the materials and how do you care for it?

Polyamide with elastane gives the outer fabrics their stretch and their fast drying; the recycled polyester lining slides easily over a base layer. Wash the jacket cold at 30°C with a technical detergent, which keeps the water repellent finish working, and skip fabric softener — it coats the fibres and kills both the repellency and the breathability. Close all zippers first, wash with similar colours, and either tumble dry on low or line drip dry in the shade. Do not iron, do not iron over the print, do not bleach, and do not dry clean or professionally wet clean.

What about recycled content?

The lining of the Peak Performance Vislight Polartec® Alpha Insulated Jacket Women is made from 78% recycled polyester.
