What Is an Insulated Ski Jacket and What Are the Options?
An insulated ski jacket is essential for anyone seeking warmth and comfort while skiing or snowboarding. The insulation helps maintain your body temperature, even in the harshest conditions. There are different types of insulation, each with its own advantages. In this guide, we explain the differences so you can make the perfect choice.
Down Insulation: Lightweight and Extremely Warm
A jacket insulated with down is the ideal choice for those looking for maximum warmth without sacrificing comfort. Down provides excellent insulation and is very lightweight, making it perfect for cold, dry conditions. However, keep in mind that down performs less well in wet conditions unless the jacket has been specially treated to resist moisture.
Wool Insulation: Natural and Breathable
Jackets with wool insulation offer a natural alternative. Wool is not only warm but also breathable and retains heat even when damp. This option is ideal for those who prefer natural materials and comfort in varying weather conditions.
Synthetic Insulation: Versatile and Low-Maintenance
Synthetic insulation, such as PrimaLoft or Thinsulate, offers excellent warmth and performs well in wet conditions. This option is often slightly heavier than down but dries quickly and is easier to care for. It’s ideal for active winter sports enthusiasts who value versatility and affordability.
Why Choose an Insulated Ski Jacket?
-
Optimal Warmth: Protect yourself against extreme cold.
-
Comfort During Activity: Maintain your freedom of movement without sacrificing insulation.
-
Suitable for Various Weather Conditions: Whether you're skiing in powder snow or braving a cold wind, an insulated jacket adapts to your needs.
Which Insulation Suits You Best?
The right insulation depends on your personal preferences and the conditions in which you’ll wear the jacket. Looking for ultimate warmth and comfort? Go for down. Need a versatile, low-maintenance option? Consider synthetic materials. Or choose wool for a natural feel.

GOOD TO KNOW
- You have 14 days from receipt of your order to register your return.
- Are you too late? Then your order will no longer be found in the portal. In that case, always contact us first so we can see what possibilities there are.
- After registering online, you then have 14 days to hand in your return at the post office. If you hand in the parcel after the 14 days, we will unfortunately no longer be able to process your return. The sooner you register and send in your return, the sooner it will be processed and you will receive your money back.
- Almost all outerwear and trousers are delivered with a large yellow return label. Do not remove this until you decide to keep the item! Once this vignette has been removed, there is no way we can return the item.
- Returns are at your own risk and expense.
- If you return part of your order, we will only refund the amount of the returned items and not other costs such as shipping costs.
- If you have received an incorrect or damaged item, please always contact us a.s.a.p. and include photos of the product and the labels so we can see which item/defect is concerned.

STEP BY STEP GUIDE:
1. Check your items
√ Has the return period of 14 days after receipt not expired
√ Is the yellow return label (in the case of outerwear and trousers) and all price tags still attached?
√ Is the article unworn and therefore not dirty, damaged or creased?
2. Submit your return online
Enter your own postcode and the full order number (including letters) in the portal to which you can start the return. You can choose to purchase a DPD shipping label via the portal. If you choose this option, print the shipping label. You can download this immediately and it will also be sent to you by e-mail (please check your e-mail address and any spam mail).
You can also choose another carrier outside the portal. We always advise you to send the parcel insured. The DPD label via the portal insures your parcel up to €500.
3. Pack your return
√ Fold the items neatly and close all zips and buttons. Because of the technical materials it is important not to cause serious creases and wrinkles, as these can damage the product.
Then pack the items back in their original packaging and put them in the shipping bag or box. Another bag or box is also fine, as long as it is sturdy so that it arrives undamaged
√ If you have items from several orders that you wish to return, you may simply return them in 1 parcel
√ Put the enclosed packing slip/order confirmation (or a copy) in the parcel
√ Stick the DPD shipping label on the parcel.
If you have chosen to send via another carrier, please write the return address on the parcel:

- 20.000 mm water column, fully sealed seams
- HIPE® ACE three-layer with 2-way stretch
- Hood fits a ski helmet, two-way adjustable
- No insulation: warmth depends on your midlayer
- No powder skirt; front vents, no pit zips
- One colourway, sizes S to XL only
The Peak Performance WeiTien Ridge Ace Ski Jacket Men is a three-layer, uninsulated shell ski jacket for freeride skiing, with a 20.000 mm water column and 20.000 g/m2/24h breathability. It is built around the HIPE® ACE membrane with 2-way stretch, so the shell moves with you instead of resisting you. Because there is no insulation, warmth comes entirely from the layers you wear underneath.
Who is this ski jacket for?
This is a jacket for a freeride skier who earns some turns on foot or on skins and wants one waterproof shell for the whole season, layered for warmth rather than insulated. The relaxed, articulated cut is made to clear a midlayer and back protection. It is not the jacket for standing still in deep cold without a substantial midlayer, and not for anyone who wants a trim, close-fitting silhouette.
How waterproof and breathable is the WeiTien Ridge Ace?
The three-layer construction combines a 70D ripstop face fabric, the HIPE® ACE membrane and a soft tricot backer, rated at 20.000 mm water column and 20.000 g/m2/24h moisture vapour transfer. All seams are fully sealed and the zippers are YKK AquaGuard®, so wet snow and sustained snowfall stay out. Heat is dumped through zippered front-facing vents; there are no pit zips on this jacket.
Which size should you choose for the WeiTien Ridge Ace?
The fit is relaxed and articulated, cut to go over a base layer, a midlayer and back protection, with hip length and a dropped hem for coverage over ski trousers. The hem drawcord and Velcro cuff straps let you tighten things down once you are on snow. Check the size chart on this page against your own chest and sleeve measurements, and bear in mind that the jacket is offered in S, M, L and XL only.
What is HIPE® ACE and how is this shell built?
HIPE® ACE is Peak Performance's own membrane, used here in a three-layer laminate with 2-way stretch. The outer side is a 70D lightweight ripstop with a face of 60% recycled polyamide and 40% polyamide; the membrane itself is 100% polypropylene; the inner side is a soft tricot backer that sits directly against your midlayer. Because the backer is bonded into the laminate, the WeiTien Ridge Ace Ski Jacket Men has no separate lining to flap or soak. Water column is 20.000 mm and breathability 20.000 g/m2/24h, with every seam sealed and YKK AquaGuard® zippers on the openings. A water-repellent treatment made without intentionally added PFAS keeps the face fabric from wetting out.
Is the WeiTien Ridge Ace suitable for ski touring and freeride?
Freeride is what this jacket is built around, and the ascent is designed in rather than tolerated: 20.000 g/m2/24h plus 2-way stretch and zippered front-facing ventilation keep output days manageable, and the articulated cut lets you reach and pole without the hem riding up. The fixed hood is ski helmet compatible, adjusts in two directions for height and width, and has a laminated brim that holds its shape in snowfall. A RECCO® Rescue System reflector is built in for off-piste days. Where the Peak Performance WeiTien Ridge Ace Ski Jacket Men stops is warmth and deep-snow sealing: it carries no insulation, and no powder skirt is fitted, so on bottomless days you rely on the hem drawcord and a bib or high trousers underneath.
What is it made of and how do you care for it?
The face fabric of the WeiTien Ridge Ace Ski Jacket Men is 60% recycled polyamide and 40% polyamide in a 70D ripstop weave, chosen for abrasion resistance against pack straps, edges and tree runs. Washing is straightforward: machine wash at 40 degrees Celsius on a delicate cycle with a liquid detergent, rinse twice, and skip fabric softener, which clogs a membrane. Close the zippers first and take the included ski goggle wipe cloth out of the pocket. After washing, a low tumble dry or a cool iron reactivates the water-repellent treatment, which is what keeps the ripstop from absorbing water and feeling heavy.
How sustainable is this jacket?
Two concrete points: the face fabric contains 60% recycled polyamide, and the jacket is made without intentionally added PFAS. The three-layer construction and the 70D ripstop also point at a long service life, which is the part of the equation you control through care and repair.
