What Is an Insulated Ski Jacket and What Are the Options?
An insulated ski jacket is essential for anyone seeking warmth and comfort while skiing or snowboarding. The insulation helps maintain your body temperature, even in the harshest conditions. There are different types of insulation, each with its own advantages. In this guide, we explain the differences so you can make the perfect choice.

Down Insulation: Lightweight and Extremely Warm
A jacket insulated with down is the ideal choice for those looking for maximum warmth without sacrificing comfort. Down provides excellent insulation and is very lightweight, making it perfect for cold, dry conditions. However, keep in mind that down performs less well in wet conditions unless the jacket has been specially treated to resist moisture.

Wool Insulation: Natural and Breathable
Jackets with wool insulation offer a natural alternative. Wool is not only warm but also breathable and retains heat even when damp. This option is ideal for those who prefer natural materials and comfort in varying weather conditions.

Synthetic Insulation: Versatile and Low-Maintenance
Synthetic insulation, such as PrimaLoft or Thinsulate, offers excellent warmth and performs well in wet conditions. This option is often slightly heavier than down but dries quickly and is easier to care for. It’s ideal for active winter sports enthusiasts who value versatility and affordability.

Why Choose an Insulated Ski Jacket?

  • Optimal Warmth: Protect yourself against extreme cold.

  • Comfort During Activity: Maintain your freedom of movement without sacrificing insulation.

  • Suitable for Various Weather Conditions: Whether you're skiing in powder snow or braving a cold wind, an insulated jacket adapts to your needs.

Which Insulation Suits You Best?
The right insulation depends on your personal preferences and the conditions in which you’ll wear the jacket. Looking for ultimate warmth and comfort? Go for down. Need a versatile, low-maintenance option? Consider synthetic materials. Or choose wool for a natural feel.

Our premium ski jackets combine functionality, style, and top quality, so you can fully enjoy your winter sports adventure. Explore our collection and find your perfect insulated ski jacket!

STEP BY STEP GUIDE:

1. Check your items

√ Has the return period of 14 days after receipt not expired

√ Is the yellow return label (in the case of outerwear and trousers) and all price tags still attached?

√ Is the article unworn and therefore not dirty, damaged or creased?

2. Submit your return online

Enter your own postcode and the full order number (including letters) in the portal to which you can start the return. You can choose to purchase a DPD shipping label via the portal. If you choose this option, print the shipping label. You can download this immediately and it will also be sent to you by e-mail (please check your e-mail address and any spam mail).

You can also choose another carrier outside the portal. We always advise you to send the parcel insured. The DPD label via the portal insures your parcel up to €500.

3. Pack your return

√ Fold the items neatly and close all zips and buttons. Because of the technical materials it is important not to cause serious creases and wrinkles, as these can damage the product.

Then pack the items back in their original packaging and put them in the shipping bag or box. Another bag or box is also fine, as long as it is sturdy so that it arrives undamaged

√ If you have items from several orders that you wish to return, you may simply return them in 1 parcel

√ Put the enclosed packing slip/order confirmation (or a copy) in the parcel

√ Stick the DPD shipping label on the parcel.

If you have chosen to send via another carrier, please write the return address on the parcel:

The Peak Performance Wildrush Pile Jacket is a women's pile fleece midlayer jacket with a relaxed, hip-length cut, made for everyday wear, walks and trail hikes. It layers over a tee or base layer and sits under a shell jacket when the weather turns. Soft pile fleece carries the warmth, while woven fabric reinforcements sit in the areas that wear out first.

Who is the Wildrush Pile Jacket for?

This one is for the skier or hiker who wants a single soft pile fleece for daily use that also works as a midlayer under a ski or hiking shell. The Peak Performance Wildrush Pile Jacket is not a technical high-output fleece, and it is not an outer layer for wet or windy days: it has no membrane and no hood. If you need weather protection on top, pair it with a shell jacket.

How warm is the Peak Performance Wildrush Pile Jacket?

Warmth comes from the pile fleece fabric itself rather than from a separate insulation layer, so it behaves like a soft, lofty fleece: warm while you keep moving and breathable on a trail hike. Elastic binding along the collar, the centre front zipper, the cuffs and the bottom hem holds warm air in. The woven reinforcement panels add some wind resistance where they sit, but on its own this jacket is not built for sustained wind or standing around in deep cold.

Which size should you choose in the Wildrush Pile Jacket?

The Wildrush Pile Jacket has a relaxed, loose fit designed for layering, and comes in XS, S, M and L. Check the size chart on this page against your own measurements before you order. Over a base layer and under a roomy shell it works at your usual size; if you want a close-fitting midlayer under a slim-cut shell, the extra volume will be noticeable and a smaller size may suit you better.

How is the Wildrush Pile Jacket built?

The Peak Performance Wildrush Pile Jacket is a pile fleece construction: a deep, soft pile face that holds air and therefore warmth, with woven fabric reinforcements placed in the areas most prone to wear. Those woven panels do two jobs at once, adding abrasion resistance and cutting some of the breeze where they sit. The front closes with a full-length YKK Vislon zipper fitted with a cord pull you can work with gloves on. Two open hand pockets, a hanger loop on the outside of the neck and elastic binding at the collar, zipper, cuffs and hem complete the build. There is no hood and no powder skirt.

Is the Wildrush Pile Jacket suitable as a ski midlayer?

Yes, for resort days under a shell. Worn over a base layer and under a hardshell jacket, the Wildrush Pile Jacket adds a layer of still air without adding a membrane you do not need. Two things to plan for. The cut is relaxed, so under a slim-fitting shell it will feel bulky at the chest and upper arms. And the hand pockets are open, so anything you want to keep on the move belongs in a zipped shell pocket instead. For walks, trail hikes, travel and post-ski comfort the same jacket works as a standalone layer, as long as the weather stays dry: with no membrane, no water column and no taped seams, rain is a job for a shell.

What is the Wildrush Pile Jacket made of and how do you wash it?

The main body of the Peak Performance Wildrush Pile Jacket is 100% recycled polyester pile, with a second 100% polyester fabric used for the woven reinforcements and details. Polyester dries fast and keeps its loft through repeated washing, which is what you want from a layer you wear several times a week. Machine wash at 40°C with similar colours and close the zippers first so the Vislon teeth do not catch the pile. Tumble dry on low, or line drip dry in the shade. Do not bleach, do not iron, and keep it away from dry cleaning and professional wet cleaning.

What makes the Wildrush Pile Jacket a more responsible choice?

Peak Performance designed the Wildrush Pile Jacket for circularity, and the main shell fabric is 100% recycled polyester. It is also made without intentionally added PFAS, which fits a garment that is meant to be layered under a shell rather than to shed rain by itself. Combined with the woven reinforcements at the high-wear points, the intent is a fleece that stays in use for years rather than seasons.
