A lined jacket contains a filling of down, wool or synthetic material.
What Is an Insulated Ski Jacket and What Are the Options?
An insulated ski jacket is essential for anyone seeking warmth and comfort while skiing or snowboarding. The insulation helps maintain your body temperature, even in the harshest conditions. There are different types of insulation, each with its own advantages. In this guide, we explain the differences so you can make the perfect choice.
Down Insulation: Lightweight and Extremely Warm
A jacket insulated with down is the ideal choice for those looking for maximum warmth without sacrificing comfort. Down provides excellent insulation and is very lightweight, making it perfect for cold, dry conditions. However, keep in mind that down performs less well in wet conditions unless the jacket has been specially treated to resist moisture.
Wool Insulation: Natural and Breathable
Jackets with wool insulation offer a natural alternative. Wool is not only warm but also breathable and retains heat even when damp. This option is ideal for those who prefer natural materials and comfort in varying weather conditions.
Synthetic Insulation: Versatile and Low-Maintenance
Synthetic insulation, such as PrimaLoft or Thinsulate, offers excellent warmth and performs well in wet conditions. This option is often slightly heavier than down but dries quickly and is easier to care for. It’s ideal for active winter sports enthusiasts who value versatility and affordability.
Why Choose an Insulated Ski Jacket?
-
Optimal Warmth: Protect yourself against extreme cold.
-
Comfort During Activity: Maintain your freedom of movement without sacrificing insulation.
-
Suitable for Various Weather Conditions: Whether you're skiing in powder snow or braving a cold wind, an insulated jacket adapts to your needs.
Which Insulation Suits You Best?
The right insulation depends on your personal preferences and the conditions in which you’ll wear the jacket. Looking for ultimate warmth and comfort? Go for down. Need a versatile, low-maintenance option? Consider synthetic materials. Or choose wool for a natural feel.

STEP BY STEP GUIDE:
1. Check your items
√ Has the return period of 14 days after receipt not expired
√ Is the yellow return label (in the case of outerwear and trousers) and all price tags still attached?
√ Is the article unworn and therefore not dirty, damaged or creased?
2. Submit your return online
Enter your own postcode and the full order number (including letters) in the portal to which you can start the return. You can choose to purchase a DPD shipping label via the portal. If you choose this option, print the shipping label. You can download this immediately and it will also be sent to you by e-mail (please check your e-mail address and any spam mail).
You can also choose another carrier outside the portal. We always advise you to send the parcel insured. The DPD label via the portal insures your parcel up to €500.
3. Pack your return
√ Fold the items neatly and close all zips and buttons. Because of the technical materials it is important not to cause serious creases and wrinkles, as these can damage the product.
Then pack the items back in their original packaging and put them in the shipping bag or box. Another bag or box is also fine, as long as it is sturdy so that it arrives undamaged
√ If you have items from several orders that you wish to return, you may simply return them in 1 parcel
√ Put the enclosed packing slip/order confirmation (or a copy) in the parcel
√ Stick the DPD shipping label on the parcel.
If you have chosen to send via another carrier, please write the return address on the parcel:

- Polartec® Power Grid™ with 4-way stretch
- Hood with ponytail opening at the back
- Thumbholes keep sleeves flat under a shell
- No membrane: needs a shell in rain or wet snow
- Air-permeable fleece, no windproof claim
- No hand pockets, only a zipped back pocket
The Peak Performance Women Light Hooded Fleece Half Zip is a thin Polartec® Power Grid™ grid fleece midlayer for women, made to be worn over a base layer and under a shell on high-output days. The grid structure lets excess heat escape and moves moisture away during fast hiking, touring and climbing, and the hood has a ponytail opening at the back. It is a midlayer, not an outer layer: no membrane, no insulation fill.
Who is this fleece for?
This is for a skier or hiker who already owns a waterproof shell and wants a stretchy, very breathable layer to wear underneath it. The Peak Performance Women Light Hooded Fleece Half Zip suits active, moving days where you generate your own heat. It is not the layer for standing still in cold weather, and not an outer layer for rain, wet snow or exposed, windy terrain, because a grid fleece lets air pass straight through.
How breathable and how warm is the Light Hooded Fleece Half Zip?
Breathability comes from the construction: Polartec® Power Grid™ places a grid of raised fleece channels against the skin, so air can move and moisture can evaporate while the fabric stays thin. The half zip with gusset and YKK zipper gives you a second step of temperature control on a climb. Warmth is deliberately limited — this is a light fleece, so plan on an insulated or shell jacket over it once you stop moving.
Which size should you choose?
The Peak Performance Women Light Hooded Fleece Half Zip comes in S, M, L and XL. The 4-way stretch fabric follows the body and the thumbholes hold the sleeves in place, so the garment sits flat under a shell rather than bunching. Check the size chart on this page against your chest and sleeve measurements, and take the larger size if you want to layer it over a thicker base layer.
How is the Peak Performance Women Light Hooded Fleece Half Zip built?
The whole garment is made from one thin, stretchy Polartec® Power Grid™ micro grid fleece, with no lining behind it. The grid is a pattern of raised fleece squares on the inside face separated by thin channels: the squares trap a little air and sit against your skin, while the channels give moisture and warm air a route out. Because the fabric is unlined and single-layer, it compresses easily under a shell. A half zip with a gusset and a YKK zipper opens the chest, a large front gusset adds room across the body, and the hood carries a ponytail opening at the back.
Is this fleece suitable for ski touring and skiing?
Yes, as the middle layer. On a tour the Peak Performance Women Light Hooded Fleece Half Zip handles the climb: you can run the half zip open, the 4-way stretch moves with a pole plant, and the thumbholes keep the cuffs under your gloves. On the descent and on lift-served days it belongs under a ski shell or an insulated jacket. It stops where the weather starts. There is no membrane, no stated water column and no stated water-repellent finish, so rain and wet snow go through it, and air-permeable fleece on an exposed ridge needs a wind layer over the top. Note the pocket layout before you buy: there is a zippered back pocket and a hidden inside pocket, no hand pockets, and the back pocket sits where a backpack or hip belt rides.
What is the fabric, and what does it mean day to day?
The main fabric is Polartec® Power Grid™, a thin and stretchy micro grid fleece. Practically, that means a layer that dries fast after a sweaty climb, that keeps its shape thanks to the 4-way stretch, and that works as an everyday light fleece in town as readily as it does in the mountains. The moisture-wicking surface keeps damp air moving off the base layer rather than holding it against your skin. A hanger loop on the outside of the neck lets you dry it out properly after a day out, which matters more for a fleece than for a shell, because it is the layer that absorbs your sweat first.
