What Is an Insulated Ski Jacket and What Are the Options?
An insulated ski jacket is essential for anyone seeking warmth and comfort while skiing or snowboarding. The insulation helps maintain your body temperature, even in the harshest conditions. There are different types of insulation, each with its own advantages. In this guide, we explain the differences so you can make the perfect choice.

Down Insulation: Lightweight and Extremely Warm
A jacket insulated with down is the ideal choice for those looking for maximum warmth without sacrificing comfort. Down provides excellent insulation and is very lightweight, making it perfect for cold, dry conditions. However, keep in mind that down performs less well in wet conditions unless the jacket has been specially treated to resist moisture.

Wool Insulation: Natural and Breathable
Jackets with wool insulation offer a natural alternative. Wool is not only warm but also breathable and retains heat even when damp. This option is ideal for those who prefer natural materials and comfort in varying weather conditions.

Synthetic Insulation: Versatile and Low-Maintenance
Synthetic insulation, such as PrimaLoft or Thinsulate, offers excellent warmth and performs well in wet conditions. This option is often slightly heavier than down but dries quickly and is easier to care for. It’s ideal for active winter sports enthusiasts who value versatility and affordability.

Why Choose an Insulated Ski Jacket?

  • Optimal Warmth: Protect yourself against extreme cold.

  • Comfort During Activity: Maintain your freedom of movement without sacrificing insulation.

  • Suitable for Various Weather Conditions: Whether you're skiing in powder snow or braving a cold wind, an insulated jacket adapts to your needs.

Which Insulation Suits You Best?
The right insulation depends on your personal preferences and the conditions in which you’ll wear the jacket. Looking for ultimate warmth and comfort? Go for down. Need a versatile, low-maintenance option? Consider synthetic materials. Or choose wool for a natural feel.

Our premium ski jackets combine functionality, style, and top quality, so you can fully enjoy your winter sports adventure. Explore our collection and find your perfect insulated ski jacket!

  • Are you too late? Then your order will no longer be found in the portal. In that case, always contact us first so we can see what possibilities there are.
  • After registering online, you then have 14 days to hand in your return at the post office. If you hand in the parcel after the 14 days, we will unfortunately no longer be able to process your return. The sooner you register and send in your return, the sooner it will be processed and you will receive your money back.

STEP BY STEP GUIDE:

1. Check your items

√ Has the return period of 14 days after receipt not expired

√ Is the yellow return label (in the case of outerwear and trousers) and all price tags still attached?

√ Is the article unworn and therefore not dirty, damaged or creased?

2. Submit your return online

Enter your own postcode and the full order number (including letters) in the portal to which you can start the return. You can choose to purchase a DPD shipping label via the portal. If you choose this option, print the shipping label. You can download this immediately and it will also be sent to you by e-mail (please check your e-mail address and any spam mail).

You can also choose another carrier outside the portal. We always advise you to send the parcel insured. The DPD label via the portal insures your parcel up to €500.

3. Pack your return

√ Fold the items neatly and close all zips and buttons. Because of the technical materials it is important not to cause serious creases and wrinkles, as these can damage the product.

Then pack the items back in their original packaging and put them in the shipping bag or box. Another bag or box is also fine, as long as it is sturdy so that it arrives undamaged

√ If you have items from several orders that you wish to return, you may simply return them in 1 parcel

√ Put the enclosed packing slip/order confirmation (or a copy) in the parcel

√ Stick the DPD shipping label on the parcel.

If you have chosen to send via another carrier, please write the return address on the parcel:

The Peak Performance Women Trail 3L Hipe Jacket is a lightweight three-layer waterproof shell built for hiking and mountain biking in wet, windy weather. It pairs a 20,000 mm water column with 20,000 g/m²/24h breathability and fully sealed seams, and it compresses small enough to live permanently in a daypack. There is no insulation in it: this is a protective outer layer, and warmth comes from what you wear underneath.

Who is the Trail 3L Hipe Jacket for?

This shell suits you if you want one light, packable waterproof jacket for hiking, riding and travel, and you are happy to supply the warmth yourself with a base layer or midlayer. It also works as a light outer shell on a ski tour, worn over insulating layers. It is not a resort or freeride jacket: there is no powder skirt and no ski-specific pocketing, and the lightweight build is not meant for hard abrasion against rock, ski edges or a loaded harness.

How waterproof and breathable is it?

The three-layer HIPE® laminate in the Peak Performance Women Trail 3L Hipe Jacket is rated at 20,000 mm water column and 20,000 g/m²/24h moisture vapour transmission, and the jacket is fully seam sealed, so prolonged rain and wind stay outside. A PFC-free durable water repellent finish keeps the face fabric from wetting out. Ventilation runs through the full-length YKK Vislon® front zip; there are no pit zips, so on a hard climb you open the front.

Which size should you choose?

The Trail 3L Hipe Jacket has a regular cut and comes in S, M and L. Take your normal size for wear over a base layer or a thin midlayer; it is designed as the outermost shell layer, not as a jacket to pull over a thick insulated midlayer. Check your chest and sleeve measurements against the Peak Performance size chart on this page before ordering.

How is the Peak Performance Women Trail 3L Hipe Jacket constructed?

The jacket is a three-layer laminate: a 100% polyamide face fabric, a 100% polyurethane HIPE® membrane and a 100% polyester backer, bonded into one fabric. That bonded construction is why there is no separate lining flapping against your arms and why the jacket folds down small. All seams are fully sealed, so water cannot enter through the stitching, and the face fabric carries a PFC-free durable water repellent treatment. Raglan sleeves keep the shoulder free of seams under a pack strap, and the hood is fixed, with a laminated brim that holds its shape in rain and a hidden adjustment at the back to pull in the volume.

What does this jacket do on the trail, and where does it stop?

On a long hike or a ride in changeable weather, the Peak Performance Women Trail 3L Hipe Jacket is the layer you carry rather than wear: it compresses into a pack and comes out when the weather turns. The 20,000 mm rating handles sustained rain, the laminate blocks wind, and the drawcord at the hem lets you seal the bottom against gusts. Storage is deliberately minimal — one zippered chest pocket, reachable with a hip belt or a harness on, and no hand pockets or inner pockets. On a ski tour it works as a light outer shell over your insulation, but it has no powder skirt, no wrist gaiters and no helmet-sized hood, so deep-snow days and lift-served cold are outside what this jacket was built for.

What is it made of and how do you wash it?

Composition is fully synthetic: polyamide face, polyester backer, polyurethane membrane. Wash the jacket at 40 °C on a delicate cycle, inside out, with all zippers closed and with similar colours. Use a technical detergent rather than a standard one and skip fabric softener, which clogs the fabric and kills the water-repellent finish. A low tumble dry reactivates that finish; if you prefer, line dry in the shade. Iron cool only, never over a print, and do not bleach, dry clean or professional wet clean. Washing a shell regularly is not a risk — dirt in the face fabric is what makes rain soak in.

How sustainable is this shell?

The water-repellent treatment on the Peak Performance Women Trail 3L Hipe Jacket is PFC-free, and the jacket is made without intentionally added PFAS. The three-layer construction is also built to be repaired and kept rather than replaced each season.
