What Is an Insulated Ski Jacket and What Are the Options?
An insulated ski jacket is essential for anyone seeking warmth and comfort while skiing or snowboarding. The insulation helps maintain your body temperature, even in the harshest conditions. There are different types of insulation, each with its own advantages. In this guide, we explain the differences so you can make the perfect choice.

Down Insulation: Lightweight and Extremely Warm
A jacket insulated with down is the ideal choice for those looking for maximum warmth without sacrificing comfort. Down provides excellent insulation and is very lightweight, making it perfect for cold, dry conditions. However, keep in mind that down performs less well in wet conditions unless the jacket has been specially treated to resist moisture.

Wool Insulation: Natural and Breathable
Jackets with wool insulation offer a natural alternative. Wool is not only warm but also breathable and retains heat even when damp. This option is ideal for those who prefer natural materials and comfort in varying weather conditions.

Synthetic Insulation: Versatile and Low-Maintenance
Synthetic insulation, such as PrimaLoft or Thinsulate, offers excellent warmth and performs well in wet conditions. This option is often slightly heavier than down but dries quickly and is easier to care for. It’s ideal for active winter sports enthusiasts who value versatility and affordability.

Why Choose an Insulated Ski Jacket?

  • Optimal Warmth: Protect yourself against extreme cold.

  • Comfort During Activity: Maintain your freedom of movement without sacrificing insulation.

  • Suitable for Various Weather Conditions: Whether you're skiing in powder snow or braving a cold wind, an insulated jacket adapts to your needs.

Which Insulation Suits You Best?
The right insulation depends on your personal preferences and the conditions in which you’ll wear the jacket. Looking for ultimate warmth and comfort? Go for down. Need a versatile, low-maintenance option? Consider synthetic materials. Or choose wool for a natural feel.

Our premium ski jackets combine functionality, style, and top quality, so you can fully enjoy your winter sports adventure. Explore our collection and find your perfect insulated ski jacket!

STEP BY STEP GUIDE:

1. Check your items

√ Has the return period of 14 days after receipt not expired

√ Is the yellow return label (in the case of outerwear and trousers) and all price tags still attached?

√ Is the article unworn and therefore not dirty, damaged or creased?

2. Submit your return online

Enter your own postcode and the full order number (including letters) in the portal to which you can start the return. You can choose to purchase a DPD shipping label via the portal. If you choose this option, print the shipping label. You can download this immediately and it will also be sent to you by e-mail (please check your e-mail address and any spam mail).

You can also choose another carrier outside the portal. We always advise you to send the parcel insured. The DPD label via the portal insures your parcel up to €500.

3. Pack your return

√ Fold the items neatly and close all zips and buttons. Because of the technical materials it is important not to cause serious creases and wrinkles, as these can damage the product.

Then pack the items back in their original packaging and put them in the shipping bag or box. Another bag or box is also fine, as long as it is sturdy so that it arrives undamaged

√ If you have items from several orders that you wish to return, you may simply return them in 1 parcel

√ Put the enclosed packing slip/order confirmation (or a copy) in the parcel

√ Stick the DPD shipping label on the parcel.

If you have chosen to send via another carrier, please write the return address on the parcel:

The Arc'teryx Sunna Crew Shirt SS is a women's short-sleeve technical t-shirt in a 110 gsm recycled polyester waffle knit, built for high-output hiking and fast mountain walking in warm conditions. The whole shirt weighs 75 grams, and what sets it apart is the body length: it is cut longer than a standard tee, so the hem stays covered under a pack hipbelt or a climbing harness. Four-way stretch and gusseted underarms keep the fabric out of the way when you reach overhead.

Who is the Sunna Crew Shirt SS for?

It suits women who hike, trail run, climb or scramble in the heat and want a very light synthetic tee instead of a cotton shirt. The Arc'teryx Sunna Crew Shirt SS is not a sun shirt: it carries no UPF rating. It is not a ski or snowboard base layer either, because short sleeves and a single-layer 110 gsm knit give neither coverage nor warmth, and it offers no protection from wind, rain or snow. If you prefer to avoid biocidal antimicrobial treatments in your clothing, note that this fabric is treated with Silvadur.

How breathable is the Sunna Crew Shirt SS?

Breathability here comes from the construction, not from a membrane. The Arc'teryx Sunna Crew Shirt SS is one layer of 40d recycled polyester in a Solotex circular knit waffle at 110 gsm, with no lining and no coating, so air passes straight through the knit. One wearer reports the fabric feeling sweaty in very humid air and drying quickly again as soon as there was airflow. There is no insulation at all: any warmth comes from what you put over it.

Which size should you choose?

Order your usual size. The Arc'teryx Sunna Crew Shirt SS uses the brand's Regular fit, cut comfortably through chest, waist and hip with room to layer over or under other pieces, and customers consistently describe it as a good, true-to-size fit. The body is deliberately longer than a normal tee, so if you have a short torso expect a noticeably long hem. Check the women's tops size chart on this page against your own chest and waist measurements before ordering. Skistore Swing stocks S, M and L.

How is the Arc'teryx Sunna Crew Shirt SS constructed?

The Arc'teryx Sunna Crew Shirt SS is a single-layer technical knit: 40d recycled polyester with a Solotex circular knit waffle structure, 110 gsm, with no membrane, no lining and no face-fabric coating. The waffle surface creates texture between skin and fabric rather than a flat panel that clings. Four-way stretch lets the knit move in every direction, and gusseted underarms add fabric where the sleeve meets the body, so the hem does not lift when you push, pull or reach. A crew neck and short sleeves keep the garment to 75 grams in total.

Is the Sunna Crew Shirt SS suitable for climbing and trail running?

Yes, those are the days it was drawn for. Arc'teryx lists this women's shirt for hiking, trail running, rock climbing and bouldering, and the extra body length is the practical reason why: under a harness or a loaded hipbelt the hem stays where you put it instead of riding up over your waist. A Silvadur anti-odour treatment works against odour build-up over long or repeated days out. Where the Arc'teryx Sunna Crew Shirt SS stops is anything involving weather or cold. It is not a shell, not windproof and not water resistant, it has no UPF rating for long exposed ridges, and at 110 gsm of single-layer knit it gives little abrasion protection against rock. For lift-served skiing or snowboarding it is the wrong garment entirely.

What is the Sunna Crew Shirt SS made of and how do you wash it?

The body is 100% polyester, a 40d recycled polyester at 110 gsm. That means the Arc'teryx Sunna Crew Shirt SS can go through a gentle machine wash at medium temperature and a low-heat tumble dry, and it will not hold water the way a cotton tee does. Keep bleach, dry cleaning and fabric softener away from it: softener coats synthetic fibres and dulls the way the knit moves moisture. Wash dark colourways separately, and if you iron, use a low setting. Arc'teryx discloses that a synthetic garment like this can release plastic microfibres into the environment when washed, which is worth knowing if that matters to you.

What does Arc'teryx do for sustainability on this shirt?

Three things are concrete on the Arc'teryx Sunna Crew Shirt SS. The body fabric uses recycled polyester content. The garment is PFAS compliant. And it is sewn in a Fair Trade Certified facility in Vietnam, from fabric woven and dyed in Japan. Arc'teryx is also open about two points on the other side of the ledger: the anti-odour performance comes from Silvadur, a biocidal product, and the fabric can shed plastic microfibres in the wash. Both are stated by the manufacturer rather than hidden in a footnote.
