A lined jacket contains a filling of down, wool or synthetic material.
What Is an Insulated Ski Jacket and What Are the Options?
An insulated ski jacket is essential for anyone seeking warmth and comfort while skiing or snowboarding. The insulation helps maintain your body temperature, even in the harshest conditions. There are different types of insulation, each with its own advantages. In this guide, we explain the differences so you can make the perfect choice.
Down Insulation: Lightweight and Extremely Warm
A jacket insulated with down is the ideal choice for those looking for maximum warmth without sacrificing comfort. Down provides excellent insulation and is very lightweight, making it perfect for cold, dry conditions. However, keep in mind that down performs less well in wet conditions unless the jacket has been specially treated to resist moisture.
Wool Insulation: Natural and Breathable
Jackets with wool insulation offer a natural alternative. Wool is not only warm but also breathable and retains heat even when damp. This option is ideal for those who prefer natural materials and comfort in varying weather conditions.
Synthetic Insulation: Versatile and Low-Maintenance
Synthetic insulation, such as PrimaLoft or Thinsulate, offers excellent warmth and performs well in wet conditions. This option is often slightly heavier than down but dries quickly and is easier to care for. It’s ideal for active winter sports enthusiasts who value versatility and affordability.
Why Choose an Insulated Ski Jacket?
-
Optimal Warmth: Protect yourself against extreme cold.
-
Comfort During Activity: Maintain your freedom of movement without sacrificing insulation.
-
Suitable for Various Weather Conditions: Whether you're skiing in powder snow or braving a cold wind, an insulated jacket adapts to your needs.
Which Insulation Suits You Best?
The right insulation depends on your personal preferences and the conditions in which you’ll wear the jacket. Looking for ultimate warmth and comfort? Go for down. Need a versatile, low-maintenance option? Consider synthetic materials. Or choose wool for a natural feel.

- Are you too late? Then your order will no longer be found in the portal. In that case, always contact us first so we can see what possibilities there are.
- After registering online, you then have 14 days to hand in your return at the post office. The sooner you register and send in your return, the sooner it will be processed and you will receive your money back.

- Returns are at your own risk and expense.
- If you return part of your order, we will only refund the amount of the returned items and not other costs such as shipping costs.

STEP BY STEP GUIDE:
1. Check your items
√ Has the return period of 14 days after receipt not expired
√ Is the yellow return label (in the case of outerwear and trousers) and all price tags still attached?
√ Is the article unworn and therefore not dirty, damaged or creased?
2. Submit your return online
Enter your own postcode and the full order number (including letters) in the portal to which you can start the return. You can choose to purchase a DPD shipping label via the portal. If you choose this option, print the shipping label. You can download this immediately and it will also be sent to you by e-mail (please check your e-mail address and any spam mail).
You can also choose another carrier outside the portal. We always advise you to send the parcel insured. The DPD label via the portal insures your parcel up to €500.
3. Pack your return
√ Fold the items neatly and close all zips and buttons. Because of the technical materials it is important not to cause serious creases and wrinkles, as these can damage the product.
Then pack the items back in their original packaging and put them in the shipping bag or box. Another bag or box is also fine, as long as it is sturdy so that it arrives undamaged
√ If you have items from several orders that you wish to return, you may simply return them in 1 parcel
√ Put the enclosed packing slip/order confirmation (or a copy) in the parcel
√ Stick the DPD shipping label on the parcel.
If you have chosen to send via another carrier, please write the return address on the parcel:

- Slim athletic cut, no bulk under a shell jacket
- Chest pocket plus two zippered hand pockets
- Stretch fleece with full-length zip and hood
- No membrane or DWR: needs a shell in rain
- Athletic cut: little room for a thick midlayer
- No fibre composition or weight stated by the brand
The Mountain Studio M-7 Tech Fleece Hood is a men's technical stretch fleece midlayer with a hood, made to sit under a shell jacket while skiing, snowboarding or ski touring. It has a full-length front zip, an ergonomic hood, a chest pocket and two zippered hand pockets, in a slim athletic cut with no visible branding. In mild weather it also works on its own as a light jacket.
Who is the M-7 Tech Fleece Hood for?
This fleece suits a skier or ski tourer who wants one stretchy, breathable layer that goes under a shell on cold days and stands alone on cool ones, and who prefers a close, tailored silhouette. It is not for rain, wet snow or sustained precipitation without a waterproof shell over it, and not for standing at the lift in deep cold as your only jacket. If you want a loose fleece to pull over a thick midlayer, look elsewhere.
How warm and weatherproof is the M-7 Tech Fleece Hood?
The Mountain Studio M-7 Tech Fleece Hood is a single-layer technical stretch fleece: no membrane, no stated water column and no DWR finish. That keeps air moving during high-output efforts such as skinning uphill, and it means the fabric wets out in rain. The ergonomic hood and full-length zip take the edge off wind on cool days, but the fleece is not a windproof barrier. The manufacturer states no fabric weight or garment weight, so warmth cannot be compared numerically with other fleeces.
Which size should you choose in the M-7 Tech Fleece Hood?
The cut is athletic and tailored, with stretch for freedom of movement, and it is designed to be worn in your usual size as a midlayer under a shell. The manufacturer gives no general size-up or size-down advice. If you prefer a more relaxed feel, or want extra room to layer underneath, take the next size up. Check the size chart before ordering. Ombre Blue runs XS-2XL, Equestrian Red S-XL.
How is the M-7 Tech Fleece Hood built?
The Mountain Studio M-7 Tech Fleece Hood is built from a technical stretch fleece with reinforced stitching. There is no membrane and no laminate in the construction, so the garment stays soft and mobile rather than acting as a weather shield. The full-length front zipper lets you dump heat quickly or close the jacket to the chin, and the ergonomic hood is shaped to sit close to the head. Storage is split between one chest pocket and two zippered hand pockets, so small items stay put on a chairlift or a skin track.
Is the M-7 Tech Fleece Hood suitable for ski touring?
Yes, within limits. As a breathable, unlined stretch fleece, The Mountain Studio M-7 Tech Fleece Hood is aimed at high-output mountain activity: ski touring, hiking, and skiing or snowboarding under a shell. The stretch fabric follows arm and shoulder movement, and the full-length zip gives fast ventilation on a climb. Where it stops is weather. Put a waterproof shell over it as soon as rain, wet snow or strong wind arrives, and do not treat it as a ski jacket in cold winter conditions. There is no snow skirt, no hem adjustment and no RECCO reflector, so it is not intended as ski-specific outerwear for avalanche terrain.
What is the M-7 Tech Fleece Hood made of and how do you wash it?
The Mountain Studio specifies the shell as a technical stretch fleece but states no fibre composition, no fabric weight and no elastane percentage, so durability and insulation values cannot be quoted. Care is straightforward: machine wash at 30 °C with a mild detergent, no fabric softener. Close all fasteners first, turn the jacket inside out and wash it separately, which protects the face of the fleece and the zippers. Fabric softener coats fleece fibres and reduces their ability to move moisture, which is why it is excluded.
What does The Mountain Studio say about sustainability?
The manufacturer states that the M-7 Tech Fleece Hood is built with responsible materials, without naming a material, a percentage or a certification, so treat that as a statement of intent rather than a verifiable spec. The more concrete point is construction: The Mountain Studio uses reinforced stitching on this fleece and links it directly to longevity and long-term use. A midlayer that survives repeated seasons of layering, pack straps and washing is the part of the sustainability story you can actually check on your own garment.
Which colours is the M-7 Tech Fleece Hood available in?
Two colourways are carried: Ombre Blue in sizes XS-2XL and Equestrian Red in sizes S-XL. Both keep the same clean silhouette with no visible branding, in line with the restrained design language of The Mountain Studio.
