A lined jacket contains a filling of down, wool or synthetic material.
What Is an Insulated Ski Jacket and What Are the Options?
An insulated ski jacket is essential for anyone seeking warmth and comfort while skiing or snowboarding. The insulation helps maintain your body temperature, even in the harshest conditions. There are different types of insulation, each with its own advantages. In this guide, we explain the differences so you can make the perfect choice.
Down Insulation: Lightweight and Extremely Warm
A jacket insulated with down is the ideal choice for those looking for maximum warmth without sacrificing comfort. Down provides excellent insulation and is very lightweight, making it perfect for cold, dry conditions. However, keep in mind that down performs less well in wet conditions unless the jacket has been specially treated to resist moisture.
Wool Insulation: Natural and Breathable
Jackets with wool insulation offer a natural alternative. Wool is not only warm but also breathable and retains heat even when damp. This option is ideal for those who prefer natural materials and comfort in varying weather conditions.
Synthetic Insulation: Versatile and Low-Maintenance
Synthetic insulation, such as PrimaLoft or Thinsulate, offers excellent warmth and performs well in wet conditions. This option is often slightly heavier than down but dries quickly and is easier to care for. It’s ideal for active winter sports enthusiasts who value versatility and affordability.
Why Choose an Insulated Ski Jacket?
-
Optimal Warmth: Protect yourself against extreme cold.
-
Comfort During Activity: Maintain your freedom of movement without sacrificing insulation.
-
Suitable for Various Weather Conditions: Whether you're skiing in powder snow or braving a cold wind, an insulated jacket adapts to your needs.
Which Insulation Suits You Best?
The right insulation depends on your personal preferences and the conditions in which you’ll wear the jacket. Looking for ultimate warmth and comfort? Go for down. Need a versatile, low-maintenance option? Consider synthetic materials. Or choose wool for a natural feel.

STEP BY STEP GUIDE:
1. Check your items
√ Has the return period of 14 days after receipt not expired
√ Is the yellow return label (in the case of outerwear and trousers) and all price tags still attached?
√ Is the article unworn and therefore not dirty, damaged or creased?
2. Submit your return online
Enter your own postcode and the full order number (including letters) in the portal to which you can start the return. You can choose to purchase a DPD shipping label via the portal. If you choose this option, print the shipping label. You can download this immediately and it will also be sent to you by e-mail (please check your e-mail address and any spam mail).
You can also choose another carrier outside the portal. We always advise you to send the parcel insured. The DPD label via the portal insures your parcel up to €500.
3. Pack your return
√ Fold the items neatly and close all zips and buttons. Because of the technical materials it is important not to cause serious creases and wrinkles, as these can damage the product.
Then pack the items back in their original packaging and put them in the shipping bag or box. Another bag or box is also fine, as long as it is sturdy so that it arrives undamaged
√ If you have items from several orders that you wish to return, you may simply return them in 1 parcel
√ Put the enclosed packing slip/order confirmation (or a copy) in the parcel
√ Stick the DPD shipping label on the parcel.
If you have chosen to send via another carrier, please write the return address on the parcel:

- Four-way stretch tech fleece with 6% spandex
- Grid back fleece for softness and moisture control
- YKK half zip with chin protector
- No membrane or DWR: not a shell for wind or snow
- Lightweight fleece: not enough alone in deep cold
- Half zip pulls over head, vents less than full zip
The Mountain Studio Light Tech Fleece Half Zip is a lightweight women's half-zip fleece mid layer made from a four-way stretch tech fleece of 94% recycled polyester and 6% spandex. It is designed to be worn under a ski jacket or on its own for outdoor activity. A grid back for softness and moisture management sets it apart from a plain fleece.
Who is the Light Tech Fleece Half Zip for?
The Mountain Studio Light Tech Fleece Half Zip suits women who want a light, stretchy layer between base layer and ski jacket, or a clean-looking top for active days outdoors. It is a good fit for ascents, where breathability and fast drying matter more than maximum warmth. It is not an outer layer for snow, rain or strong wind. It is not enough as your only warm layer on cold days on the lift. If you want a mid layer that opens all the way down the front, choose a full-zip model instead.
How warm and protective is the Light Tech Fleece Half Zip?
The Light Tech Fleece Half Zip is a lightweight women's fleece mid layer with no insulation, no membrane and no DWR. Its warmth comes from the fleece itself. A melange knit face sits outside and a grid back sits against your base layer for softness and moisture management. Wind and snow pass through the knit, so wear a shell jacket over it whenever the weather turns.
Which size of the Light Tech Fleece Half Zip should I choose?
The Mountain Studio Light Tech Fleece Half Zip has a modern fit with a clean look, and the four-way stretch fabric moves with you. The model is 169 cm tall, with an 80 cm bust and a 64 cm waist, and wears a women's size S. Compare your own chest and waist measurements with the size chart on this product page. The half zip means you pull the fleece on over your head.
How is The Mountain Studio Light Tech Fleece Half Zip constructed?
The Mountain Studio Light Tech Fleece Half Zip is a single-layer tech fleece mid layer, without a membrane or separate insulation. The fabric combines a melange knit face with a grid back. The grid structure on the inside is designed for softness against the skin and for moisture management. The fabric blends 94% recycled polyester with 6% spandex, which gives it four-way stretch in every direction of movement. Smooth flatlock seams lie flat, so they sit comfortably under a backpack strap or a ski jacket. At the front, a YKK half zip opens the collar for venting, and a chin protector covers the top of the zip where it meets your face.
Is the Light Tech Fleece Half Zip suitable for ski touring and ascents?
The Light Tech Fleece Half Zip by The Mountain Studio is built for active use, and that includes uphill work. On an ascent, a light layer that is described as breathable and fast drying is often more useful than a thick, warm one. The four-way stretch keeps your arms and shoulders free on the skin track or on a hike. The half zip lets you open the collar when you heat up. A half zip vents less than a full zip, though, and you cannot take the fleece off without pulling it over your head. At the top, or as soon as wind picks up, put a shell jacket over it. With no membrane and no DWR, this fleece mid layer does not keep out wind, snow or rain on its own.
How does the Light Tech Fleece Half Zip work on a day on the piste?
On the piste, The Mountain Studio Light Tech Fleece Half Zip works as a mid layer under a ski jacket, which is how the brand designed it. It adds a light layer of warmth and stays smooth under the jacket thanks to the flatlock seams and the clean cut. On cold days with long, slow lift rides, this lightweight fleece is not enough as your only warm layer. Combine it with an insulated jacket, or add a warmer layer, when temperatures drop and you spend a lot of time standing still.
What is the Light Tech Fleece Half Zip made of and how do you wash it?
The fabric of The Mountain Studio Light Tech Fleece Half Zip is 94% recycled polyester and 6% spandex, and the half front zip is made by YKK. Wash the fleece on an easy-care cycle at 30 °C, inside out, separately and with the zip closed. Use mild detergent only and no fabric softener. These restrictions protect the soft knit and the stretch of the fabric, so keep to them if you want the fleece to keep its hand feel.
How much recycled material is in the Light Tech Fleece Half Zip?
The Light Tech Fleece Half Zip is made from a fabric of 94% recycled polyester, blended with 6% spandex for stretch. The Mountain Studio follows a 'Buy better, use more' philosophy, so the aim is a mid layer you wear often and for many seasons.
