What Is an Insulated Ski Jacket and What Are the Options?
An insulated ski jacket is essential for anyone seeking warmth and comfort while skiing or snowboarding. The insulation helps maintain your body temperature, even in the harshest conditions. There are different types of insulation, each with its own advantages. In this guide, we explain the differences so you can make the perfect choice.

Down Insulation: Lightweight and Extremely Warm
A jacket insulated with down is the ideal choice for those looking for maximum warmth without sacrificing comfort. Down provides excellent insulation and is very lightweight, making it perfect for cold, dry conditions. However, keep in mind that down performs less well in wet conditions unless the jacket has been specially treated to resist moisture.

Wool Insulation: Natural and Breathable
Jackets with wool insulation offer a natural alternative. Wool is not only warm but also breathable and retains heat even when damp. This option is ideal for those who prefer natural materials and comfort in varying weather conditions.

Synthetic Insulation: Versatile and Low-Maintenance
Synthetic insulation, such as PrimaLoft or Thinsulate, offers excellent warmth and performs well in wet conditions. This option is often slightly heavier than down but dries quickly and is easier to care for. It’s ideal for active winter sports enthusiasts who value versatility and affordability.

Why Choose an Insulated Ski Jacket?

  • Optimal Warmth: Protect yourself against extreme cold.

  • Comfort During Activity: Maintain your freedom of movement without sacrificing insulation.

  • Suitable for Various Weather Conditions: Whether you're skiing in powder snow or braving a cold wind, an insulated jacket adapts to your needs.

Which Insulation Suits You Best?
The right insulation depends on your personal preferences and the conditions in which you’ll wear the jacket. Looking for ultimate warmth and comfort? Go for down. Need a versatile, low-maintenance option? Consider synthetic materials. Or choose wool for a natural feel.

Our premium ski jackets combine functionality, style, and top quality, so you can fully enjoy your winter sports adventure. Explore our collection and find your perfect insulated ski jacket!

  • After registering online, you then have 14 days to hand in your return at the post office. If you hand in the parcel after the 14 days, we will unfortunately no longer be able to process your return. The sooner you register and send in your return, the sooner it will be processed and you will receive your money back.

STEP BY STEP GUIDE:

1. Check your items

√ Has the return period of 14 days after receipt not expired

√ Is the yellow return label (in the case of outerwear and trousers) and all price tags still attached?

√ Is the article unworn and therefore not dirty, damaged or creased?

2. Submit your return online

Enter your own postcode and the full order number (including letters) in the portal to which you can start the return. You can choose to purchase a DPD shipping label via the portal. If you choose this option, print the shipping label. You can download this immediately and it will also be sent to you by e-mail (please check your e-mail address and any spam mail).

You can also choose another carrier outside the portal. We always advise you to send the parcel insured. The DPD label via the portal insures your parcel up to €500.

3. Pack your return

√ Fold the items neatly and close all zips and buttons. Because of the technical materials it is important not to cause serious creases and wrinkles, as these can damage the product.

Then pack the items back in their original packaging and put them in the shipping bag or box. Another bag or box is also fine, as long as it is sturdy so that it arrives undamaged

√ If you have items from several orders that you wish to return, you may simply return them in 1 parcel

√ Put the enclosed packing slip/order confirmation (or a copy) in the parcel

√ Stick the DPD shipping label on the parcel.

If you have chosen to send via another carrier, please write the return address on the parcel:

  • YKK Vislon front zip and two hand pockets
  • Not waterproof or windproof: wear a shell in rain
  • Short, boxy body: no hip or lower-back coverage

The Mountain Studio W. Soft Wool Pile Jacket is a women's wool-blend pile fleece midlayer for cold, dry days, worn under a ski shell on the mountain or on its own as a jacket in town. It has a short, boxy cut, a tall collar, a full-length YKK Vislon front zip and two hand pockets. What sets it apart is the fabric: in the solid colourways the pile is a wool and acrylic blend rather than a standard synthetic fleece.

Who is the W. Soft Wool Pile Jacket for?

This jacket suits a woman who wants one warm, understated pile layer that works under a shell on the piste and as a standalone jacket for apres-ski, travel and everyday winter wear on dry days. It is not for use as an outer layer in rain or wet snow, and not for exposed, windy days without a shell over it. If you want hip and lower-back coverage, or a slim layer for high-output activity, choose a different garment.

How warm is the Soft Wool Pile Jacket, and does it keep weather out?

Warmth comes from the pile fabric itself; there is no separate insulation layer, no membrane and no DWR treatment. The Mountain Studio publishes no weight, no fibre percentages and no temperature rating for this jacket, so its warmth can only be judged qualitatively: it is a lofted pile midlayer with a tall collar and elastic cuffs that close off the two main heat leaks. Open pile lets wind through, so pair it with a shell when the weather turns.

Which size should you choose?

The W. Soft Wool Pile Jacket is cut for a relaxed fit in women's sizing, available XS-XL. The brand gives no general runs-small or runs-large advice. Consider sizing up if you prefer a longer, roomier fit or plan to layer thicker garments underneath. Because the body is short, check the size guide measurements if you have a long torso.

How is the W. Soft Wool Pile Jacket constructed?

The Mountain Studio builds this women's jacket from a single pile (fleece-type) fabric, with no membrane, no separate insulation layer and no laminated backer stated. The lofted pile surface is the whole system: it holds air, and the tall collar plus elastic sleeve cuffs keep that air where you want it. The full-length front runs on a YKK Vislon zip, the same zip family used on the two hand pockets, and the only branding is a small TMS logo badge. There is no hood, no powder skirt, no hem adjustment and no pit zips, which keeps the silhouette clean but also means the jacket has no way to seal out weather on its own.

Is the W. Soft Wool Pile Jacket suitable for skiing and ski touring?

On the piste, the W. Soft Wool Pile Jacket works as a midlayer under a waterproof shell and as the layer you pull on afterwards in the lodge. It stops where the weather starts: the pile is neither waterproof nor water-resistant, so in rain or wet snow it belongs under a shell, not over your base layer alone. For ski touring and freeride its use is limited. Pile is bulky relative to synthetic fill or down of similar warmth, the boxy volume can feel restrictive under a slim-cut shell, and a thick pile fabric runs too warm on high-output climbs. Treat it as a resort, apres-ski and everyday layer rather than a touring piece.

What is the W. Soft Wool Pile Jacket made of and how do you wash it?

The composition depends on the colourway. The solid options - Castle Wall, Lilac Snow and Ice Water - use a wool and acrylic pile blend; the exact percentages are not published. The checked colourway, Brindle/Castle Wall, is 100% polyester. Castle Wall is a solid beige; Brindle/Castle Wall is a two-tone checkered beige. Because of the wool content, care is gentler than for an ordinary fleece: wash on a wool or hand-wash programme at 30 degrees Celsius, inside out, separately, with all fasteners closed and a mild detergent for delicates. No bleach, no fabric softener, no ironing, no dry cleaning; tumble dry on low heat only. Plan for that routine before you buy - this is not a jacket you throw in with a normal 40-degree load.

What does The Mountain Studio say about sustainability?

The Mountain Studio positions the wool-blend pile of the W. Soft Wool Pile Jacket as a choice made for warmth, comfort and longevity, aimed at years of reliable use and at a garment that can be repaired rather than replaced. Sustainability here is framed as responsible material choice and long-term wear. No certification, standard, recycled content percentage or repair programme is named by the brand, so take it as a design intent rather than a measured claim.

The Mountain Studio - Soft Wool Pile
The Mountain Studio - Soft Wool Pile
Soft Wool Pile is the warm, tactile end of the midlayer range. The plush pile is made from a wool and acrylic blend that insulates without much weight and keeps breathing while you move. It works two ways: under a shell on the mountain, or on its own once the boots are off. The checked version is woven from polyester rather than wool.
