A lined jacket contains a filling of down, wool or synthetic material.
What Is an Insulated Ski Jacket and What Are the Options?
An insulated ski jacket is essential for anyone seeking warmth and comfort while skiing or snowboarding. The insulation helps maintain your body temperature, even in the harshest conditions. There are different types of insulation, each with its own advantages. In this guide, we explain the differences so you can make the perfect choice.
Down Insulation: Lightweight and Extremely Warm
A jacket insulated with down is the ideal choice for those looking for maximum warmth without sacrificing comfort. Down provides excellent insulation and is very lightweight, making it perfect for cold, dry conditions. However, keep in mind that down performs less well in wet conditions unless the jacket has been specially treated to resist moisture.
Wool Insulation: Natural and Breathable
Jackets with wool insulation offer a natural alternative. Wool is not only warm but also breathable and retains heat even when damp. This option is ideal for those who prefer natural materials and comfort in varying weather conditions.
Synthetic Insulation: Versatile and Low-Maintenance
Synthetic insulation, such as PrimaLoft or Thinsulate, offers excellent warmth and performs well in wet conditions. This option is often slightly heavier than down but dries quickly and is easier to care for. It’s ideal for active winter sports enthusiasts who value versatility and affordability.
Why Choose an Insulated Ski Jacket?
-
Optimal Warmth: Protect yourself against extreme cold.
-
Comfort During Activity: Maintain your freedom of movement without sacrificing insulation.
-
Suitable for Various Weather Conditions: Whether you're skiing in powder snow or braving a cold wind, an insulated jacket adapts to your needs.
Which Insulation Suits You Best?
The right insulation depends on your personal preferences and the conditions in which you’ll wear the jacket. Looking for ultimate warmth and comfort? Go for down. Need a versatile, low-maintenance option? Consider synthetic materials. Or choose wool for a natural feel.

STEP BY STEP GUIDE:
1. Check your items
√ Has the return period of 14 days after receipt not expired
√ Is the yellow return label (in the case of outerwear and trousers) and all price tags still attached?
√ Is the article unworn and therefore not dirty, damaged or creased?
2. Submit your return online
Enter your own postcode and the full order number (including letters) in the portal to which you can start the return. You can choose to purchase a DPD shipping label via the portal. If you choose this option, print the shipping label. You can download this immediately and it will also be sent to you by e-mail (please check your e-mail address and any spam mail).
You can also choose another carrier outside the portal. We always advise you to send the parcel insured. The DPD label via the portal insures your parcel up to €500.
3. Pack your return
√ Fold the items neatly and close all zips and buttons. Because of the technical materials it is important not to cause serious creases and wrinkles, as these can damage the product.
Then pack the items back in their original packaging and put them in the shipping bag or box. Another bag or box is also fine, as long as it is sturdy so that it arrives undamaged
√ If you have items from several orders that you wish to return, you may simply return them in 1 parcel
√ Put the enclosed packing slip/order confirmation (or a copy) in the parcel
√ Stick the DPD shipping label on the parcel.
If you have chosen to send via another carrier, please write the return address on the parcel:

- 4-way stretch fleece with 5% elastane
- Hood with chin protector, worn under a shell
- 66% recycled polyester in the fleece fabric
- No weather protection of its own: add a shell
- Not built as an outer layer in strong, cold wind
- No insulation fill: not for static days in deep cold
The Mountain Studio M-2 W Tech Fleece Hood is a women's hooded technical fleece made to be worn under a shell jacket or on its own. This fleece hoodie combines a soft 4-way stretch fabric with 5% elastane, a hood with chin protector and two zipped hand pockets. The fabric dries quickly, which suits a layering system for active mountain days.
Who is the M-2 W Tech Fleece Hood for?
The M-2 W Tech Fleece Hood is for women who want a stretchy, hooded fleece midlayer under a ski jacket or hardshell, and a top that also works on its own away from the slopes. It is neither a shell nor an insulated jacket. In rain, wet snow or strong, cold wind, this fleece hoodie belongs under a waterproof outer layer. On static days in deep cold, such as long lift rides, it needs an insulated jacket or extra warm layers on top.
How does the M-2 W Tech Fleece Hood perform as a midlayer?
The Mountain Studio M-2 W Tech Fleece Hood is cut from a technical fleece of 66% recycled polyester, 29% polyester and 5% elastane. The elastane gives the fabric 4-way stretch, so the fleece hoodie moves with you when you pole, reach or climb. The quick-drying fabric helps when you sweat on the way up and then stop at the top. Smooth flatlock seams lie flat against the body when a shell jacket sits over the fleece.
Which size should I choose in the M-2 W Tech Fleece Hood?
Choose your size with the size chart on this product page. For reference, the model wearing the M-2 W Tech Fleece Hood is 176 cm tall, with an 81 cm bust and a 63 cm waist, and wears women's size S. This fleece hoodie is designed as a midlayer, so check that your shell jacket has room for it over your base layer before you order.
How is the M-2 W Tech Fleece Hood constructed?
The Mountain Studio M-2 W Tech Fleece Hood is built around a single technical fleece fabric without insulation fill. The warmth of this fleece hoodie comes from the fleece itself and from the layers you wear around it. The 5% elastane in the blend makes the fabric stretch in four directions, and the panels are joined with smooth flatlock seams. A YKK zipper closes the front, and a chin protector covers the top of the zip so the zipper does not rub against your chin when it is fully closed. A vertical silicone logo is the only branding on the fleece.
Can you wear the M-2 W Tech Fleece Hood under a ski jacket?
Yes. The Mountain Studio designed the M-2 W Tech Fleece Hood to be worn underneath a shell, between your base layer and your ski jacket or hardshell. On the piste, off-piste or on a tour, the 4-way stretch fleece follows your movement, and the hood gives extra coverage for your head and neck when the shell hood is down. The fleece midlayer stops where weather starts: it offers no weather protection of its own, so the shell has to deal with rain, wet snow and wind. On cold days with a lot of standing still, add an insulated layer, because a fleece midlayer alone is not built for static cold.
Can you wear the M-2 W Tech Fleece Hood on its own?
The M-2 W Tech Fleece Hood is also designed as a standalone layer. In dry, calm conditions this women's fleece hoodie works as an outer top for the walk to the lift, a break at the hut or a day in the village. The two zipped hand pockets keep small items such as keys or a phone closed in. As soon as precipitation or strong wind arrives, the fleece hoodie goes back under a shell.
What is the M-2 W Tech Fleece Hood made of, and how do you wash it?
The fabric of The Mountain Studio M-2 W Tech Fleece Hood consists of 66% recycled polyester, 29% polyester and 5% elastane. The fleece is machine washable on an easy care cycle at 30 °C. Use only a mild detergent and no fabric softener. Turn the fleece hoodie inside out, close all zippers before washing and wash it separately from other garments. The quick-drying fabric is ready to wear again soon after washing.
How much recycled material does the M-2 W Tech Fleece Hood contain?
Two thirds of the fleece fabric in the M-2 W Tech Fleece Hood is recycled polyester: 66% of the composition. The remaining 34% is made up of 29% polyester and 5% elastane, the fibre that provides the 4-way stretch.
