What Is an Insulated Ski Jacket and What Are the Options?
An insulated ski jacket is essential for anyone seeking warmth and comfort while skiing or snowboarding. The insulation helps maintain your body temperature, even in the harshest conditions. There are different types of insulation, each with its own advantages. In this guide, we explain the differences so you can make the perfect choice.

Down Insulation: Lightweight and Extremely Warm
A jacket insulated with down is the ideal choice for those looking for maximum warmth without sacrificing comfort. Down provides excellent insulation and is very lightweight, making it perfect for cold, dry conditions. However, keep in mind that down performs less well in wet conditions unless the jacket has been specially treated to resist moisture.

Wool Insulation: Natural and Breathable
Jackets with wool insulation offer a natural alternative. Wool is not only warm but also breathable and retains heat even when damp. This option is ideal for those who prefer natural materials and comfort in varying weather conditions.

Synthetic Insulation: Versatile and Low-Maintenance
Synthetic insulation, such as PrimaLoft or Thinsulate, offers excellent warmth and performs well in wet conditions. This option is often slightly heavier than down but dries quickly and is easier to care for. It’s ideal for active winter sports enthusiasts who value versatility and affordability.

Why Choose an Insulated Ski Jacket?

  • Optimal Warmth: Protect yourself against extreme cold.

  • Comfort During Activity: Maintain your freedom of movement without sacrificing insulation.

  • Suitable for Various Weather Conditions: Whether you're skiing in powder snow or braving a cold wind, an insulated jacket adapts to your needs.

Which Insulation Suits You Best?
The right insulation depends on your personal preferences and the conditions in which you’ll wear the jacket. Looking for ultimate warmth and comfort? Go for down. Need a versatile, low-maintenance option? Consider synthetic materials. Or choose wool for a natural feel.

Our premium ski jackets combine functionality, style, and top quality, so you can fully enjoy your winter sports adventure. Explore our collection and find your perfect insulated ski jacket!

  • Are you too late? Then your order will no longer be found in the portal. In that case, always contact us first so we can see what possibilities there are.
  • After registering online, you then have 14 days to hand in your return at the post office. If you hand in the parcel after the 14 days, we will unfortunately no longer be able to process your return. The sooner you register and send in your return, the sooner it will be processed and you will receive your money back.

STEP BY STEP GUIDE:

1. Check your items

√ Has the return period of 14 days after receipt not expired

√ Is the yellow return label (in the case of outerwear and trousers) and all price tags still attached?

√ Is the article unworn and therefore not dirty, damaged or creased?

2. Submit your return online

Enter your own postcode and the full order number (including letters) in the portal to which you can start the return. You can choose to purchase a DPD shipping label via the portal. If you choose this option, print the shipping label. You can download this immediately and it will also be sent to you by e-mail (please check your e-mail address and any spam mail).

You can also choose another carrier outside the portal. We always advise you to send the parcel insured. The DPD label via the portal insures your parcel up to €500.

3. Pack your return

√ Fold the items neatly and close all zips and buttons. Because of the technical materials it is important not to cause serious creases and wrinkles, as these can damage the product.

Then pack the items back in their original packaging and put them in the shipping bag or box. Another bag or box is also fine, as long as it is sturdy so that it arrives undamaged

√ If you have items from several orders that you wish to return, you may simply return them in 1 parcel

√ Put the enclosed packing slip/order confirmation (or a copy) in the parcel

√ Stick the DPD shipping label on the parcel.

If you have chosen to send via another carrier, please write the return address on the parcel:

Product information
  • 3-layer HELLY TECH Professional, fully seam sealed
  • Drop seat and adjustable elastic suspenders
  • Gripper boot gaiters, boot hooks, reinforced hem
  • Pure shell, no insulation: warmth comes from layers
  • No leg vents; heat is managed by layering only
  • Bib with suspenders, not a waist-height trouser

The Helly Hansen Emiko Shell Bib Pants are women's 3-layer ski bib pants made with HELLY TECH® Professional. They are fully seam sealed and have no insulation. They are built for resort skiing, off-piste and backcountry days, and three details set them apart: a bib on adjustable elastic suspenders, a drop seat and an integrated RECCO® reflector.

Who are the Helly Hansen Emiko Shell Bib Pants for?

The Emiko Shell Bib Pants suit women who ski the resort and also head off-piste, and who want a waterproof shell they can layer for the conditions of the day. The bib rises above the waist and is held in place by elastic suspenders. Helly Hansen describes the design as Japanese-inspired. These bib pants are not the right choice if you want an insulated ski trouser that stays warm without layering. They also do not suit you if you prefer a waist-height trouser without suspenders, or if you need harness or climbing features for technical mountaineering.

How waterproof and warm are the Emiko Shell Bib Pants?

The Helly Hansen Emiko Shell Bib Pants combine a 3-layer HELLY TECH® Professional membrane with a 100% polyester shell fabric and fully sealed seams. The construction is waterproof, windproof and breathable, and a water-repellent treatment on the outer fabric helps snow and rain bead off. The pants are a pure shell, so they add no warmth of their own. On cold days, wear a base layer plus an insulating mid layer underneath. Over a thin base layer alone they are too cold for standing around on a cold resort day.

Which size of the Emiko Shell Bib Pants should I choose?

Compare your measurements with the Helly Hansen women's size chart on this product page. Keep in mind the base and mid layers you plan to wear under this shell. You can fine-tune the fit of the Emiko Shell Bib Pants in three places. The elastic suspenders adjust in length. The waist adjusts and cinches in for a more feminine look. The bottom leg is cinchable and closes over your ski boots with boot gaiters. Articulated knees and a crotch gusset add freedom of movement.

How are the Helly Hansen Emiko Shell Bib Pants constructed?

The Helly Hansen Emiko Shell Bib Pants are a 3-layer hardshell built with HELLY TECH® Professional. In a 3-layer construction the outer fabric, the membrane and an inner layer are laminated into a single fabric. The membrane blocks water and wind and lets moisture vapour from your body pass outwards. The outer fabric is 100% polyester. Every seam is sealed, so water cannot get in through the stitch holes. A water-repellent treatment on the face fabric makes moisture bead off. You can reactivate it by tumble drying the pants. The Emiko Shell Bib Pants contain no insulation. That makes them a shell you can wear across a wide range of temperatures, as long as you adjust the layers underneath.

Can you ski off-piste and backcountry in the Emiko Shell Bib Pants?

Helly Hansen lists the Emiko Shell Bib Pants for resort skiing, off-piste skiing and backcountry skiing. For deep snow and rough terrain, the bottom leg is reinforced and has reinforcement fabric on the hem. Inside the leg, boot gaiters with gripper close over your ski boots, and boot hooks on the front of the hem anchor the leg. An integrated RECCO® reflector can be located by professional rescue teams using RECCO® detectors. The drop seat lets you take a break without taking off the suspenders. Storage consists of a large chest pocket, two hand pockets with secure zippers, and a Life Pocket™ on the thigh. The Life Pocket™ is a zippered phone pocket with a phone holder, designed to help protect your phone battery in the cold. These bib pants also have clear limits. There are no leg vents, so on long, high-output uphill days you regulate heat by layering only. There are no harness or climbing features, so the Emiko Shell Bib Pants are not made for technical mountaineering.

What are the Emiko Shell Bib Pants made of, and how do you wash them?

The shell of the Helly Hansen Emiko Shell Bib Pants is 100% polyester, laminated to the HELLY TECH® Professional membrane. Close all zippers and hook-and-loop fastenings before washing, and wash dark colours separately. Do not soak the pants and do not use fabric softener, which can affect the membrane and the water-repellent finish. After washing, tumble dry the pants to reactivate the water-repellent treatment, and take them out of the dryer promptly. Do not iron over the printed HH® logo. With this routine the Emiko Shell Bib Pants keep shedding water season after season. Washing them regularly removes dirt that would otherwise weaken the water repellency.
